On June 17, 1979, twenty people gathered in what had been an abandoned bait shop on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard. They had a vision to worship God and to share His great news with the surrounding community through authentic worship, teaching and committed relationships. The church has steadily grown and thrived because people continue to be transformed by God's love, and have found in Lake Pointe a church home where they can feel the joy of serving and being challenged in their faith.

The church occupied its first permanent building in October of 1980 in Rowlett, Texas. To accommodate rapid growth, the church has held as many as five separate services on weekends and has utilized offsite buildings and temporary annexes. In 1996 the church relocated to Rockwall, Texas, after purchasing a 5,000 seat auditorium and 36 acre site from Church on the Rock.
